BritBox’s production of its young, hot Poirot series, Hercule, is moving along. The streamer’s just shared a first proper look at star Edward Bluemel as Agatha Christie’s world-famous Belgian detective—a notably sleeker, broodier take, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Bluemel’s dapper yet sober appearance seems to complement series writer Benji Walters’ (Obsession) “intimate study” of the character. Bluemel’s measured, somewhat less quizzical expression could signal the series’ commitment to a deeper dive into what makes this Belgian sleuth tick (while perhaps leaving room for an origin story about how he learned to wax and meticulously style his mustache). BritBox’s six-part drama, which centers on “three of [Christie’s] early stories” and introduces Hercule Poirot to “future friends, allies, and one particular nemesis,” will also feature an “epic portrait of Britain between the wars,” hinting at a more somber tone for the series compared to the jovial energy of David Suchet’s Poirot.
